Renault’s new 160 PS strong hybrid SUV opens for bookings at Rs. 21,000 ahead of its official India debut on October 17, 2026
Renault has today announced that the new Duster’s strong hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain has received an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency rating of 29 km per litre ahead of its official India debut on October 17, 2026. The French manufacturer has confirmed the figure for its new hybrid SUV which will be introduced in an expansive range.
The new powertrain develops a combined power output of 160 PS and does not require external charging. The Duster E-Tech 160 features a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack to form the hybrid tech. The petrol engine and electric motors work through an intricate hybrid system that distributes propulsion duties according to driving conditions.
The powertrain incorporates an intelligent multi-mode transmission that automatically manages the operation of the petrol engine and electric motors. The transmission determines the appropriate propulsion source based on driving requirements. The arrangement supports electric-only operation under suitable conditions and automatically switches between petrol and electric propulsion when necessary.
The strong hybrid system can propel the Duster through its electric motors without assistance from the petrol engine under suitable conditions. The petrol engine can supply propulsion when additional power is required or when electric-only operation is unsuitable. The automatic power management system handles these transitions without requiring the driver to select individual propulsion modes.
The 1.4 kWh battery receives energy recovered during braking and deceleration. The system also replenishes the battery during vehicle operation – eliminating the need for a separate charging connection. Unlike plug-in hybrids, the Duster E-Tech 160 does not depend on an external electricity supply to replenish its battery. The self-charging arrangement is central to Renault’s strong hybrid technology and apparently customers’ convenience.
Renault has positioned the Duster E-Tech 160 as an alternative to diesel powered SUVs for customers who prioritise fuel economy and power output. The combination of 160 PS and an ARAI-certified 29 kmpl enables the petrol-electric model two specifications that Renault considers relevant to diesel SUV customers.
The company has opened bookings for the Duster strong hybrid E-Tech 160 on October 9, 2026 and buyers can reserve the SUV by paying Rs. 21,000 through the official Renault India website or at authorised Renault dealerships nationwide.
